#1: Learn about Cannabis Strains

The first thing you should do when considering your cannabis journey is to educate yourself on the types of cannabis strains out there so that you can make informed decisions about which strain would be best for your growing experience. There are hundreds of different strains out there – each with its unique characteristics and which provides different effects to the user. Strains are separated into three different categories: Sativa, Indica, and Hybrid.

Sativa strains like Jack Herer and Durban Poison have been traditionally associated with providing uplifting, energizing sensations. These plants are typically tall and narrow in structure with long internodes between each set of leaves. Flowers from Sativa strains tend to grow upwards in large clusters of buds rather than outward. This can be useful for indoor growers who need a lot of light for their plants. Because the buds are so close together, you can grow more in less space than other cannabis strains. Sativa buds tend to be longer than indica buds as well which makes them easier to trim by hand when growing indoors.

Indica strains tend to produce a body-centered high that is a more relaxing, sedative, and calming. They are shorter plants with wider leaves that are better at dealing with colder temperatures. Indica strains are perfect for indoor growers because of their shorter height and lack of height development which makes them easier to manage. Indica varieties also tend to grow in tighter clusters than Sativa strains which makes trimming require less time and effort.

Hybrids typically take characteristics from both indica and Sativa plants that make both Sativa high and the indica body effects possible in the same plant. These plants are typically a cross between two different strains of cannabis and then further refined by breeding. These strains tend to be shorter than Sativa strains but have more indica features than indica varieties. However, they still provide uplifting Sativa high and are perfect for indoor cultivation.

#2: Indoor / Outdoor Growing & Lights

Not all marijuana plants need the same growing equipment to thrive, which is why there are so many different ways to grow it. Growing methods ultimately depend on what kind of plant you’re growing, whether you choose to grow indoors or outside and what your budget will allow you to invest in when growing marijuana plants.

Indoor Growing

Indoor marijuana growing is typically considered the best way to grow marijuana because of the optimal environment it provides for your plants. Indoor conditions are generally easier to control than outdoor conditions and allow for maximum sunlight exposure for your plants. Indoor growing tends to be more expensive than outdoor growing and requires specialized equipment that most people do not have access to. However, with proper equipment and technique, these plants will produce large yields of weeds that need little attention from you or your hands.

Outdoor Growing

Outdoor growing is excellent if you want to grow a large amount of weed in a relatively small area of land. However, it requires more work than indoor growing and can be difficult if you do not live in an area with little or no snowfall. If you choose to grow outdoors, your plants will need to be planted in soil that is not frozen below the ground or out of direct sunlight as most plants dislike the intense heat of direct sunlight.

Grow Lights

There are several different types of lights that marijuana growers can use when growing their plants indoors. These lights range from single bulbs to huge industrial lamps that normally run hundreds of watts and cost thousands of dollars. Grow lights are very useful for indoor growing because they give your plants the light that they need to grow and thrive.

HID Grow Lights

HID (High-Intensity Discharge) lights have long been recognized as one of the best options for indoor growing. These lights are extremely powerful and efficient and produce plenty of heat which is why most of these lamps have integrated cooling systems within them. The downside to HID lighting is the cost, which can be high depending on how large an area you need to grow in. However, if you are going to use any other method of lighting besides HPS lamps, then this would be a good option for you.

LED Grow Lights

LED grow lights are becoming more and more popular nowadays. These lights do not require a lot of energy but still produce enough light to keep your plants healthy. The nice thing about LED grows lights is that they are efficient and do not produce a lot of heat or make a lot of noise so they can be used in tight spaces. This makes them ideal for those who have small grow areas.

MH/HPS Lamps

Metal Halide (MH) lamps and High-Pressure Sodium (HPS) lamps are two of the most common types of grow lights found in indoor growing setups. These lamps both produce fairly similar amounts of light and use different spectrums of light to help your plants grow. MH lamps are known for producing a yellowish glow and HPS lamps produce a bluish color. Both of these lights are cheap and reliable and can be used for years at a time without having to worry about replacing them.

#3: Know the Different Growing Methods

Growing marijuana in any form requires the same basic set of skills so it is important to know the different ways that you can choose to grow your weed in. The two most common ways to grow marijuana are in soil or hydroponically. Each method has pros and cons, but both methods work well when done correctly.

Growing In Soil

Growing in soil is the traditional way to grow marijuana. It is simple and forgiving and you do not have to use any special equipment or products while growing your plants this way. This method is also relatively cheap since you can get some soil from just about anywhere and a bag of seeds will set you back only a few bucks. However, there are some downsides to growing in soil as well.

Soil takes longer to work with than hydroponics and is not as forgiving when you make mistakes. If too much water or nutrients are applied to the plants, then there is no real way to fix this problem and it could potentially kill your plants. Soil is also more likely to harbor bugs and pests than hydroponics so care must be taken to prevent any damage from happening.

Hydroponic Grow System

Hydroponic growing is a lot easier than growing in soil or a regular setup because your plants will receive all of the nutrients they need from a solution that gets pumped into their containers. This means that a lot of the work is done for you and all you have to do is keep an eye on your plants and make sure that they do not get too much water or nutrients.

The main downside to hydroponic growing is the cost. Most of the equipment needed to grow this way is fairly expensive and some can even cost thousands of dollars. It is also hard to control everything when using hydroponics because you are relying on a system that constantly pumps nutrients into your plants which can lead to overfeeding and even death if enough mistakes are made. However, if you find a way around these downsides, then this can be an excellent method for growing marijuana.

#4: Understand How to Make a Grow Box

A grow box is any type of homemade chamber that is used to grow marijuana in. Unlike other types of setups, you do not need to have a lot of fancy equipment or skills to make a decent grow box. You could probably get away with using an old refrigerator or other household items and making it work. However, some materials are more useful than others, which is why we are including this step.

When building a grow box, you need to make sure that you have everything that your plants will need. This includes soil, seeds, and a good variety of marijuana strains. Coolers, plastic buckets, and other basic household items can be used to create a great growing environment for your plants. Covering all of your pots or growing chambers with reflective foil is also important to heat the area and prevent weeds from drying out during the winter months.

Now that you understand what it takes to make a grow box, let’s go over how you can put it together.

Step 1: Choose your Container

First, you need to decide what you want to use as a container for your grow box. You can buy some of the items that you need from your local hardware store before deciding on what to use. There are a lot of different containers that you can choose from and some are better than others depending on the situation.

Coolers: One of the easiest things to use for a grow box is an old cooler or chest freezer that you no longer need. Both of these objects are made out of thick plastic and will hold in heat very well which makes them perfect for growing marijuana. You can also use a cooler that has wheels on it and make it portable.

Plastic Trays: One of the best ways to create your own grow box is to buy some plastic trays from your local hardware store and then place them in a container that you have decorated with reflective foil. These trays will allow you to control the temperature inside the container.

Containers: Another great option for creating your own grow box is one of these small plastic containers that you can find at almost any nearby home improvement store. Place four to five pots in each container, fill it up with soil and then add a fan and light source such as a simple fluorescent bulb or grow light above each pot.

Step 2: Set Up a Fan

Place the containers inside your grow box and then connect them using ducting. Ducting is just a fancy word for hosing and it is perfect for creating an opening for your grow box because it will help to keep out bugs and pests. You can buy this material from your local hardware store before beginning to create your grow box. Make sure that you connect the hose from outside of the box since that is where you need to put in an air filter.

Now that you have everything connected, add in a fan to circulate the air around each pot while they are growing marijuana. One 12-volt cooling fan should be enough to create an even temperature inside each plant container.

Step 3: Create a Watering System

The next thing you want to do is create a watering system for your plants. You can make your watering system or buy one from your local home improvement store. All you need to do is connect two hose nozzles on either end of the containers and then place a timer between them so that you can control how long the water will run before it shuts off automatically. You only want to leave the water on for 10 minutes at a time because this will allow it to stay fresh and keep each pot moist.

Step 4: Create an Air Filter

If you want to grow marijuana indoors, you will need to create a little air filter for your grow box. This is essential for keeping the air in the boxes fresh and preventing them from becoming too hot or too dry. You can buy one of these filters on the Internet and then connect it to a small fan to make your air filter system. You must do this step because if you start growing marijuana without one, it can lead to an increase in mold and other types of bacteria which make your plants sicker, weaker, and more vulnerable to death.

Step 5: Add in Lighting

If you want to be able to grow marijuana indoors, you will also need to add in some lighting that can help your plants to grow. You can buy a small fluorescent lamp or other kinds of light that is adjustable for this purpose. It is best to place the light above the plants since this way the lights will not directly shine on them. Once you have added the lighting, connect it up to an extension cord and then plug it into an outlet inside of your grow box. This step is very important because if your plants are not receiving enough light, they will start growing slowly and most likely become sick and die before they are ready to harvest.

Step 6: Add in Some Soil

Now, all you have to do is add some soil to each pot and then plant the marijuana seeds inside of the soil before covering them up with more dirt until they are just barely covered. Make sure that you don’t overwater them and always keep a close eye on the plants because you don’t want them to dry out. If this happens, they will start to look yellow and shriveled. This can cause them to die or become unhealthy if it goes on for too long. You may also want to place some plastic around each container so that it doesn’t leak while it is being stored.

Once you have created your grow box, there are some smaller tasks that you will need to complete before you can start growing marijuana plants inside of it. These steps can seem like a lot of work at first, but keep in mind that once you have completed all of these tasks, it will be much easier for you to create more boxes.
